Norris to bring curtain down on phenomenal season at Macau
The Macau GP is an established end-of-season event in which many of the world’s leading up-and-coming young drivers fight it out around the narrow and unforgiving 3.8-mile Guia street circuit.
Norris has already enjoyed a phenomenally successful year having captured the Toyota Racing Series , Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula Renault Northern European Cup titles in dominant style. He will compete in a Qualification Race (19 Nov) then the actual 15-lap Grand Prix on Sunday (20 Nov) – the FIA Formula Three World Cup. Lando, selected as a McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist this year, will head to Macau as a 17-year-old (13 Nov) and having recently made his FIA Formula 3 European Championship debut at Hockenheim (14-16 Nov) after contesting a handful of BRDC British Formula Three Championship races earlier this year – all with Carlin who Norris won the MSA Formula Championship with last year.
Some of today’s most successful drivers have passed through the doors of Carlin, including Formula One drivers Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Kevin Magnussen and Daniil Kvyat. Meanwhile many current or former F1 drivers have participated in the Macau event early in their careers and some of them have won the prestigious prize including Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard.
“I’ve enjoyed an amazingly successful season, winning three titles in what has been a very busy year but closing out 2016 at Macau will be an awesome experience. It’s going to be a challenge, the entry list contains many good drivers who have previous Macau success and who have extensive F3 experience."
"I fitted in a handful of BRDC British Formula 3 Championship races earlier this year in between my Formula Renault commitments and earlier this month made my FIA F3 Euro Championship debut at Hockenheim but had to start each of those races from the pit lane due to F3 testing regulations. Overall, Hockenheim was a very positive weekend having set the ninth fastest time twice in qualifying along with a fourth fastest time. In the final Hockenheim race, I set the second fastest lap time."
" I can’t wait to get back in the F3 car at Macau – I’ve heard so many great stories about the track and the challenges it brings but as always, we’re going to prepare well as a team before we even get there so we’re ready. Obviously it’s going to be a challenge but it’s one I’m really looking forward to and it will round off an incredible year.”
