In-form French-Argentinian racer Sacha Fenestraz was at his stunning best to take two wins at the Nürburgring in the Formula Renault Northern European Cup this weekend (15-16 September).

The Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Championship leader used the competition as a warm-up before the penultimate round of his exciting title pursuit. And the Josef Kaufmann Racing driver used the time to devastating effect – finishing nearly every session in first place and securing two comfortable victories. The ever-smiling ADD Motorsports-supported teen said: “It was a really great few days. I think it was one of the first times I’ve spent nearly the whole weekend in first place.  “After driving an F3 car last week for the first time, the idea was to get some time in the car again and get some practice in before Spa next week. “It took a bit of getting used to, but not too long, as I got the fastest lap in the first practice! “After that we were really fast all weekend - the team did a great job again.

”The talented 18-year-old is enjoying a fantastic season in the FR2.0 Eurocup. He currently sits on top of the Championship with four wins to his name – and just two rounds left, starting at Spa later this week. Last week, he teamed up with Carlin to make his FIA European F3 debut at the Nürburgring as he explores his options for 2018 – impressing with a Top 10 finish and qualifying in fourth.  And he was back at one of his favourite tracks again this weekend – where he set a new Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup track record during pre-season collective tests in March and took a win in the Championship in July. After getting used to the car again, Sacha soon showed his intentions, taking the fastest lap in the first free practice and just missing out on doing the same in the second one on old tyres. In tricky, wet conditions, he then showed brilliant pace again in qualifying, finishing in first position in both. A slow start saw him lose his advantage at the beginning of the first race. But a few laps later, he took it back brilliantly, waiting until the leader went slightly wide and taking him on the inside. Sacha didn't look back, extending his lead lap after lap to take the checkered flag six seconds in front.   He got off to a better start in the second race, leading from lights to flag.

Sacha Fenestraz: "I will be arriving in Spa full of confidence and in good form. Now I just need to keep working as hard as possible and take as many points as I can." His dominance was briefly slowed down during a safety car period following a serious-looking crash, but a good re-start saw him extend his lead, before going on to win by four seconds and finish the perfect weekend in style. He now heads to Spa for the penultimate weekend (22-24 September) of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Championship. He added: “This weekend has been a great help, I was able to get used to the car again and the results have helped me mentally.  “I will be arriving in Spa full of confidence and in good form. Now I just need to keep working as hard as possible and take as many points as I can and hopefully the rest will take care of itself.”
