Triple Champion Lando to contest against the best in FIA European F3 debut
Arriving at the track for the second time this month, he’ll rejoin the same squad he took the MSA Formula title with in 2015 and take to the wheel of his Volkswagen-powered machine for a series of three exhilarating races over the two-day format.
“It’s great to finish off a successful season with the opportunity to race in FIA F3. There will be a lot to learn in my first weekend at Hockenheim but it’s a track I know well and holds special significance for me as the circuit where I won the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC championship earlier this month. It’s a very competitive field but as a team we’re aiming to be on the pace from the outset.”
Having recently completed test days during prior to this weekend, Lando has been granted entry to the Hockenheim event under the conditions that he will not be eligible for championship points and will start all races from the pit lane as per FIA F3 regulations.
Undeterred, and fired up by the opportunity to fight his way through the field, Lando is fully prepared to deliver a promising debut alongside his Carlin teammates, with Trevor Carlin adding:
“We’re very pleased to finish off the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European Championship with such a great line-up of young British talent. For us it’s all about qualifying, so we can prove once again the pace of the Carlin F3 package.”
With the prestigious Macau GP, just weeks away, his entry into the final FIA F3 Championship round will secure his place to compete in the thrilling street-race alongside Carlin teammates Dan Ticktum & Jake Hughes.
Track action at Hockenheim begins later this morning with Free Practice 1 at 10:45 CEST and sees the first race get underway at 10:00 tomorrow
